Dedication

An owner’s transfer of private land to public use

A developer recording a subdivision plat dedicates the streets, alleys and utility easements shown on it to the public. Dedication can also happen by long public use without objection, which is called common law or implied dedication.

How the exam asks about it

Grouped with voluntary alienation, and often contrasted with condemnation, where the transfer to public use is compelled rather than offered.
